Unit 1

Mindful Moments

This unit contains five different breathing practices, and focuses on the development of a personal mindfulness practice. The primary goal of a mindfulness practice is to anchor attention in the present moment and allow space for any thoughts feelings and body sensations that may arise. Rather than get stuck in the past or caught up in the future, participants simply need to follow the breath in and out, using it as an anchor to strengthen their ability to focus in the present moment.

As you progress through each breathing activity, remind participants that it’s 100% normal for thoughts and distractions to pop up. If this happens, simply redirect focus to the breath. Working through this unit, will help participants of all ages practice looking inward, develop a sense of self- awareness and cultivate a compassionate acceptance for him/herself exactly as they are.
